Description
Diagnose, treat, and help prevent psychiatric disorders linked to neurological disease and brain injury, integrating brain-behavior assessment with interdisciplinary care.
- • Analyze clinical, imaging, EEG, and neuropsychological data to diagnose neuropsychiatric conditions.
- • Prescribe and manage psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic treatments tailored to neurological comorbidity.
- • Coordinate neuromodulation therapies (such as ECT or TMS) and consult on DBS-related psychiatric care.
- • Collaborate with neurologists, neuropsychologists, neuroradiologists, rehabilitation teams, and psychiatric nurses on treatment plans.
- • Gather and maintain comprehensive neurological and psychiatric histories, exams, and records.
- • Counsel patients and caregivers about symptoms, prognosis, and coping strategies.
- • Perform neurological and mental status examinations and order or interpret MRI/CT, EEG, labs, and cognitive assessments.
- • Advise families and guardians on safety, capacity, and community resources.
- • Review and evaluate treatment procedures and outcomes of team members; provide specialty consultations on complex cases.
- • Prepare and submit case reports, disability evaluations, or summaries to clinics, insurers, or agencies.
- • Serve on committees to develop or improve neuropsychiatry, brain injury, dementia, or epilepsy services.
- • Teach, pursue continuing education, attend conferences, or conduct and publish research on neuropsychiatric disorders.
