Description
Diagnose, treat, and help prevent mental and behavioral disorders in children and adolescents.
- • Evaluate developmental, behavioral, medical, family, and school information to diagnose child and adolescent mental disorders.
- • Prescribe and manage age-appropriate psychotherapies and medications, monitoring efficacy, side effects, and growth impacts.
- • Collaborate with families, pediatricians, psychologists, schools, and child protective or social services on treatment plans and progress.
- • Gather and maintain comprehensive records, including developmental milestones, psychosocial factors, and educational histories from caregivers and other sources.
- • Provide counseling, psychoeducation, and brief interventions to children, adolescents, and caregivers during visits.
- • Design individualized, family-centered care plans using evidence-based, developmentally appropriate interventions.
- • Order and interpret labs or diagnostic studies relevant to pediatric psychopharmacology and medical comorbidities.
- • Advise parents or guardians on diagnoses, prognosis, safety planning, and treatment options; obtain informed consent and child assent as appropriate.
- • Review and evaluate treatment outcomes, adjust care plans, and consult with other clinicians on pediatric psychiatric cases.
- • Prepare and submit case reports, school accommodation letters, or summaries for mental health agencies, insurers, or courts.
- • Serve on committees or community initiatives to enhance access to child and adolescent mental health services.
- • Teach, complete continuing education, attend conferences, or conduct research to advance pediatric mental health care.
