Description
Lead the creative vision and execution of stage, television, radio, video, or film productions. Interpret scripts; direct actors and crew; plan shots, pacing, and visual style; collaborate on casting, design, sound, and effects; and oversee rehearsals and post-production to deliver the intended story.
- • Guide script development and revisions with writers.
- • Plan framing, composition, camera movement, sound, and actor blocking for each shot or scene.
- • Direct actors on approach, characterization, and movement to achieve performances efficiently.
- • Direct live broadcasts, films, recordings, or non-broadcast programming.
- • Coordinate writers, department heads, and other creative personnel throughout production.
- • Study and research scripts to determine directorial approach, tone, and style.
- • Supervise and coordinate camera, lighting, design, and sound crews with the AD and DP.
- • Confer with technical directors, producers, crew, and writers on photography, script, music, sets, and costumes.

- • Lead production meetings to track progress and align on objectives.
- • Annotate scripts, shot lists, and storyboards; compile director’s notes for departments.
- • Collaborate with assistant directors on schedules, call sheets, and rehearsal planning.
- • Mediate creative differences and resolve on-set issues to maintain workflow.
- • Collaborate with producers and ADs on scheduling and resource planning.
- • Provide story direction or outlines to screenwriters when needed.
- • Work with editors to assemble cuts, refine sequences, and shape the final narrative.
- • Select or approve locations and determine how scenes will be staged and shot.
- • Review footage daily to evaluate work in progress and plan upcoming shoots.
- • Pitch creative concepts, visual treatments, and mood references to stakeholders.
- • Provide input on trailers, key art, and promotional materials to support marketing.
- • Collaborate on selecting principal cast and key crew members.
- • Run auditions and cast roles in partnership with casting directors and producers.
- • Evaluate and select scripts or concepts to direct.
- • Ensure compliance with safety, legal, and broadcast standards on set.
- • Maintain continuity with script supervisors and ensure performance consistency across takes and scenes.
- • Oversee ADR direction, sound design reviews, color grading, and final mix approvals.
