  • • Interpret peripheral blood smears, bone marrow aspirates/biopsies, and lymphoid tissue sections.
  • • Classify leukemias, lymphomas, plasma cell neoplasms, and myeloid disorders using integrated diagnostic criteria.
  • • Perform and interpret flow cytometry immunophenotyping for hematologic diseases.
  • • Correlate morphology with immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics (karyotype/FISH), and molecular assays (PCR/NGS).
  • • Write integrated hematopathology reports summarizing findings and diagnoses.
  • • Consult with hematologists/oncologists on test selection, result interpretation, and patient management.
  • • Oversee hematology, flow cytometry, and coagulation laboratory operations and quality.
  • • Develop, validate, and implement new assays, including minimal residual disease testing.
  • • Review complete blood counts, coagulation profiles, hemoglobin electrophoresis, and specialized hematology tests.
  • • Obtain or assist with bone marrow biopsies and aspirates; perform FNAs of lymph nodes when indicated.
  • • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and communicate timely results to care teams.
  • • Identify causes, mechanisms, and clinical significance of hematologic abnormalities and neoplasms.
  • • Evaluate infectious or autoimmune processes affecting blood and lymphoid tissues.
  • • Plan and supervise the work of hematopathology staff, residents, and fellows.
  • • Educate clinicians, trainees, and laboratory personnel in hematopathology and lab methods.
  • • Conduct research and present scientific findings in hematology and hematopathology.
  • • Ensure regulatory compliance, laboratory safety, and quality assurance in hematology services.
  • • Testify as an expert witness on hematopathologic diagnoses and laboratory practices.
  • • Review complex cases by integrating prior records, laboratory data, and ancillary studies.
