Description
Support operating and procedural areas by preparing, distributing, and tracking medications under a pharmacist’s supervision. Ensure aseptic compounding, controlled substance accountability, accurate labeling, and secure, timely delivery of anesthesia and surgical medications in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
  • • Receive and verify anesthesia and surgical medication orders for completeness and route to a pharmacist.
  • • Compound and label sterile IVs, syringes, epidural/nerve block, and irrigation solutions using aseptic technique per USP 797/800.
  • • Prepare and barcode-label case-specific medications per surgeon and anesthesiologist preference cards.
  • • Restock and maintain OR and PACU automated dispensing cabinets and anesthesia carts.
  • • Manage controlled substance chain-of-custody; issue, reconcile returns, and resolve discrepancies.
  • • Deliver STAT and time-critical medications to OR suites and procedure areas.
  • • Build and stage medication bins for scheduled surgical cases.
  • • Maintain secure storage and proper environmental conditions for perioperative medications.
  • • Check and record refrigerator and freezer temperatures; ensure cold-chain integrity.
  • • Monitor inventory levels, rotate stock, and remove expired or damaged medications.
  • • Receive and verify incoming perioperative drug orders against invoices and store appropriately.
  • • Clean and document maintenance of cleanrooms, hoods, and work areas per schedule.
  • • Handle hazardous drugs with required PPE and controls; maintain spill kits and documentation.
  • • Exchange and seal anesthesia and crash cart trays; verify contents and expiration dating.
  • • Enter dispensing, compounding, waste, and charge data in pharmacy information systems.
  • • Maintain accurate patient and case medication records as required.
  • • Respond to calls and messages from OR staff; address supply needs and refer clinical questions to a pharmacist.
  • • Print and apply compliant labels with barcodes and beyond-use dating.
  • • Assist with medication recalls and lot/serial number tracking for OR inventory.
  • • Educate and assist staff with ADC workflows and basic troubleshooting.
  • • Participate in audits, diversion prevention activities, and regulatory readiness tasks.
