Description
Prepare customized sterile and non-sterile medications under a pharmacist’s supervision. Weigh, mix, and package compounds; apply aseptic technique, document and label accurately, operate compounding equipment, and maintain cleanroom and safety compliance.
  • • Receive and verify compounded prescription orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • • Perform pharmaceutical calculations for formulations, dilutions, and batch scaling.
  • • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients to compound non-sterile preparations per master formulation records.
  • • Aseptically prepare sterile IV admixtures, TPN, and other sterile compounds in cleanroom hoods.
  • • Handle and compound hazardous drugs using required PPE and containment devices.
  • • Perform in-process checks (weight, volume, visual inspection) and document results.
  • • Label final products with ingredients, lot numbers, beyond-use dates, and storage requirements.
  • • Maintain compounding logs, worksheets, and master formulation records.
  • • Calibrate and maintain balances, mixers, capsule machines, and other compounding equipment.
  • • Clean and disinfect compounding areas, hoods, and equipment according to SOPs.
  • • Monitor and record cleanroom conditions and support environmental sampling as directed.
  • • Maintain proper storage and security for chemicals, supplies, and finished compounds.
  • • Receive, verify, and store chemicals and supplies; record lot numbers, expirations, and COAs.
  • • Manage inventory of bulk ingredients and supplies; rotate stock and check for recalls or shortages.
  • • Enter prescription and compounding data into pharmacy software accurately.
  • • Prepare billing and insurance claims for compounded prescriptions.
  • • Package, seal, and stage compounded orders for pickup, delivery, or shipping with temperature controls as required.
  • • Answer phones and electronic messages regarding order status, pricing, or availability; refer clinical questions to the pharmacist.
  • • Assist patients or providers with basic inquiries and direct them to the pharmacist for counseling.
  • • Support operation of automated compounding devices and document setups and verifications.
  • • Transfer sterile medications to syringes or containers using aseptic technique.
  • • Follow USP and facility safety standards for aseptic technique, hazardous drug handling, and waste disposal.
