Description
Compile and verify time and pay data to process payroll. Calculate wages, deductions, and taxes; issue pay; maintain payroll records and reports; and ensure compliance with payroll laws and company policies.
- • Import and audit approved time and attendance data from timekeeping systems.
- • Process and issue employee paychecks and direct deposits with earnings and deduction statements.
- • Compute regular, overtime, and special pay plus deductions; enter payroll data into the payroll system.
- • Review timesheets and payroll registers to detect and resolve discrepancies before payroll finalization.
- • Verify attendance, hours, rates, and pay adjustments; update designated records.
- • Maintain employee payroll records, including tax withholdings, direct deposit, garnishments, and status changes.
- • Record and process new hires, transfers, pay rate changes, and terminations in the payroll system.
- • Issue and document payroll corrections, retroactive pay, and off-cycle payments.
- • Stay current on payroll tax, wage, and deduction rules and apply them accurately.
- • Respond to employee and manager inquiries about pay, taxes, deductions, and benefits.
- • Administer payroll deductions for benefits, retirement plans, and other authorized programs.
- • Prepare and reconcile payroll journals, general ledger entries, and period-end reports.
- • Reconcile payroll disbursements to bank statements and resolve variances.
- • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and payments, or coordinate with external providers.
- • Compile and submit payroll and benefits statistics and summaries to Finance and HR.
- • Coordinate payroll calendars, cutoff dates, and approvals to meet processing deadlines.
- • Track and report vacation, sick, and other paid time off balances as provided by HR/timekeeping data.
- • Conduct authorized employment and salary verifications.
- • Support internal and external payroll audits and maintain compliance documentation.
- • Safeguard confidential payroll information and follow internal control procedures.
- • Assist with year-end processing, including W-2s, 1099s, and annual reconciliations.
