Description
Assess, plan, and deliver school-based occupational therapy to help students with disabilities or developmental delays access the curriculum and participate in school routines. Use therapeutic techniques, adapt classroom environments and materials, teach functional school and self-care skills, and modify tasks that create barriers to learning and independence.
  • • Maintain required documentation, including evaluations, IEPs, progress notes, and billing.
  • • Evaluate students' fine motor, visual-motor, sensory, self-care, and school participation to set measurable IEP goals.
  • • Monitor and report student progress toward goals to teams and families.
  • • Select and grade activities that build handwriting, keyboarding, self-regulation, motor planning, and other school skills.
  • • Plan and provide OT services in classrooms, therapy rooms, and other school environments using push-in and pull-out models.
  • • Recommend and implement classroom and school environment modifications, seating and positioning, and assistive technology.
  • • Consult and collaborate with IEP and 504 teams, teachers, and related service providers to coordinate supports.
  • • Teach strategies to improve executive functioning, attention, memory, sequencing, coordination, and perception, including use of appropriate software and tools.
  • • Develop and support tiered interventions (MTSS or RTI) and health promotion activities that foster participation and prevent disability.
  • • Train and coach teachers, paraprofessionals, and families in carryover of therapy strategies, equipment use, and accommodations.
  • • Fabricate or requisition adaptive and therapeutic equipment such as pencil grips, splints, slant boards, and computer access devices.
  • • Plan and lead group activities that promote social skills, sensory regulation, and school readiness.
  • • Prepare, organize, clean, and maintain therapy materials and equipment.
  • • Advise on ergonomics, playground and cafeteria participation, and safe school routines.
  • • Participate in program evaluation, evidence-based practice, and continuing education.
  • • Support transition planning for students, including life skills, community access, and school-to-work readiness.
  • • Provide supervision and mentorship to OTAs, fieldwork students, or school staff as assigned.
