Description
Assess, plan, and deliver occupational therapy to help people with disabilities or developmental delays build or regain daily living, homemaking, and vocational skills and independence. Use evidence-based interventions, task modification, and environmental adaptations to reduce barriers and support participation.
- • Complete and maintain accurate OT evaluations, treatment plans, and documentation.
- • Evaluate client progress and prepare progress and discharge reports.
- • Assess physical, cognitive, and psychosocial abilities and analyze medical data to set realistic OT goals.
- • Select and grade activities to teach work and life-management skills within client capabilities.
- • Plan, implement, and adjust OT programs in hospital, clinic, school, home, or community settings.
- • Recommend modifications to home, school, or work environments consistent with client needs.
- • Collaborate with the rehabilitation team to coordinate OT with other therapies.
- • Use computer-based tools and other modalities to improve cognition, memory, sequencing, coordination, and perception.
- • Develop and lead health promotion groups and activities to enhance well-being and prevent disability.
- • Train and supervise OT students, aides, and other staff in therapy techniques and objectives.
- • Fabricate, fit, or procure splints, braces, and adaptive or assistive technology.
- • Design and implement programs to build school, work, or role-related skills and adjustment to disability.
- • Prepare, organize, clean, and maintain therapeutic materials and equipment.
- • Advise on ergonomics, workplace health risks, and transition-to-retirement considerations.
- • Participate in or conduct occupational therapy research and quality improvement.
- • Assist clients with job readiness, return-to-work planning, and workplace accommodations.
- • Educate and train caregivers to support client needs during and after therapy.
