Description
Perform overnight and daytime sleep studies to evaluate and diagnose sleep disorders. Prepare patients, acquire and score polysomnographic data, monitor safety, and titrate positive airway pressure therapies to support physician interpretation.
- • Apply EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory sensors, and oximetry using proper skin prep and adhesives.
- • Measure and mark electrode sites per the 10-20 system for PSG montages.
- • Configure and calibrate PSG equipment, sensors, and video/audio before studies.
- • Conduct attended overnight polysomnography (PSG) and split-night studies.
- • Perform CPAP, BiPAP, or ASV titration according to lab protocols and guidelines.
- • Conduct daytime tests such as the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT).
- • Monitor patients continuously, document observations, and respond to events or emergencies.
- • Recognize, troubleshoot, and correct artifacts from poor contact, movement, or interference.
- • Optimize signal quality and adjust montages, sensitivity, and filters as needed.
- • Score sleep stages and respiratory, movement, and arousal events per AASM rules.
- • Summarize technical findings and prepare preliminary reports for physician review.
- • Collect sleep histories, medications, and relevant medical information to tailor studies.
- • Explain procedures, educate on PAP use and sleep hygiene, and reassure patients.
- • Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment; manage supplies and perform basic repairs.
- • Assist in training and mentoring sleep technicians or students.
- • Participate in quality assurance, accreditation activities, or research as assigned.
