EP Technologist (Electrophysiology Technologist)

Neurodiagnostic Technologists
Description
Set up, operate, and troubleshoot cardiac electrophysiology lab systems to acquire and analyze intracardiac electrograms and hemodynamic data during diagnostic EP studies, ablations, and device procedures, supporting arrhythmia mapping, stimulation, and continuous patient monitoring.
  • • Prepare the EP lab and verify/calibrate recording, stimulator, ablation, mapping, and hemodynamic systems.
  • • Apply ECG leads and defibrillation/pacing pads; connect catheters and interface cables to the recording system.
  • • Collect and review patient history, medications, and indications to tailor study parameters.
  • • Explain procedures, answer questions, and reassure patients before and during cases.
  • • Operate recording systems to acquire and analyze intracardiac electrograms, intervals, and arrhythmias.
  • • Deliver programmed electrical stimulation per protocol to induce and assess arrhythmias under physician direction.
  • • Build and manage 3D electroanatomic maps to localize arrhythmia substrates and guide ablation.
  • • Operate RF and cryoablation systems and document applications, parameters, and lesion sets as directed.
  • • Monitor and document hemodynamics, anticoagulation (ACT), sedation, and patient status throughout procedures.
  • • Identify artifacts and noise; optimize filters, gains, and catheter contact to ensure signal quality.
  • • Assist with sterile setup, equipment draping, and radiation safety practices.
  • • Program and test cardiac implantable electronic devices during implants and follow-up per protocol.
  • • Prepare and submit detailed procedure logs, measurements, and images to the physician and EMR.
  • • Troubleshoot equipment issues during cases and coordinate maintenance or repairs as needed.
  • • Assist with cardioversion/defibrillation and temporary pacing setups as required.
  • • Participate in staff training, quality initiatives, registry submissions, and research or clinical trials.
