Oversee all cemetery operations, including plot sales, interment scheduling, grave opening and closing, records management, and grounds upkeep. Coordinate with families, funeral homes, clergy, and vendors to deliver compliant, respectful services while managing staff, budgets, and facilities.
  • • Consult with families to select burial plots, mausoleum crypts, or cremation niches and review options and fees.
  • • Schedule interments, entombments, and inurnments, coordinating dates, times, and committal details.
  • • Process and maintain burial permits, deeds, contracts, and perpetual care records.
  • • Maintain accurate cemetery maps, lot ownership records, and inventory using digital systems.
  • • Coordinate and oversee grave opening and closing, tent and chair setup, and site preparation.
  • • Supervise grounds crew and equipment operators, assigning work and monitoring performance.
  • • Ensure grounds, roads, and facilities are maintained, including mowing, pruning, irrigation, snow removal, and waste disposal.
  • • Inspect gravesites, markers, and mausoleums for safety and appearance and arrange repairs.
  • • Oversee installation of headstones, markers, and vaults, verifying specifications and placement.
  • • Manage compliance with state and local laws, safety regulations, and cemetery bylaws.
  • • Liaise with funeral homes, clergy, monument companies, and vault providers to coordinate services.
  • • Provide compassionate customer service and guidance on cemetery policies and options.
  • • Prepare budgets, track revenue and expenditures, and process invoicing and payments.
  • • Order supplies, fuel, and equipment and manage vendors and service contracts.
  • • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for excavation, equipment use, and grave safety.
  • • Coordinate disinterments, relocations, or cremains retrievals per legal and ethical guidelines.
  • • Maintain chapel, office, and maintenance facilities in clean, orderly condition.
  • • Promote cemetery services through community outreach and pre-need sales.
  • • Prepare daily schedules, work orders, and service logs, and report on completed interments.
  • • Respond to weather events or emergencies and implement risk mitigation and security measures.
  • • Assist families with applications for government-provided markers or military honors.
  • • Respond to genealogy or public record requests and maintain digitized archives.
