Description
Build full-scale and scale precision models, prototypes, patterns, and molds for products using diverse materials (wood, plastics, metals, composites). Includes jig and fixture building and lofting/layout work.
  • • Verify dimensions and contours during fabrication using templates, gauges, and precision measuring devices.
  • • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and CAD files; consult with designers on sizes, shapes, tolerances, and setups.
  • • Set up, operate, and adjust equipment such as saws, mills, lathes, sanders, CNC/laser systems, and 3D printers to cut and shape parts.
  • • Fit, fasten, and assemble parts to form models, patterns, or sections using adhesives and mechanical fasteners.
  • • Trim, smooth, and shape surfaces; plane, file, scrape, and sand to specified finishes with hand and power tools.
  • • Select materials, determine layouts, and mark out parts on stock using precision layout tools and software.
  • • Construct models, patterns, templates, full-scale mock-ups, and molds for product components and production tooling.
  • • Mark identifying information on models, parts, and templates to indicate assembly methods, revisions, and details.
  • • Plan, lay out, and create outlines of units, sectional patterns, or full-scale mock-ups manually or in CAD.
  • • Fabricate work aids, fixtures, jigs, and templates to support machining and assembly.
  • • Maintain model, pattern, and tooling records for reference and reuse.
  • • Build and calibrate jigs and fixtures used as guides for assembling large or specialized components.
  • • Issue completed models, patterns, or templates to designated production or machine operators.
