Description
Design, build, adjust, and maintain precision wooden jigs, fixtures, and templates that guide machining and assembly, interpreting drawings and specifications and using woodworking machines and hand tools to achieve accurate, durable results.
  • • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and process specs to define jig requirements, sizes, and tolerances.
  • • Consult with designers, engineers, and operators to refine jig concepts and setups.
  • • Plan layouts, hole patterns, and clamp locations; create working sketches as needed.
  • • Select appropriate lumber, plywood, or composite stock and mark precise layouts with squares, scribers, and protractors.
  • • Set up and operate woodworking machines such as bandsaws, planers, routers, and drill presses to cut, shape, and bore jig components.
  • • Handwork parts by planing, filing, scraping, and sanding to achieve flatness, squareness, and fit.
  • • Fit, fasten, and assemble jig components using glue, dowels, screws, bolts, and nails.
  • • Install hardware such as bushings, stops, locating pins, clamps, and guides.
  • • Verify jig dimensions, alignment, and functional clearances using templates, gauges, and measuring devices.
  • • Mark identifying information, datum references, and assembly or use instructions on jigs and templates.
  • • Fabricate auxiliary work aids, drill templates, router guides, and scrapers.
  • • Build large or specialty jigs for oversized assemblies and box shooks.
  • • Apply protective finishes such as shellac, lacquer, or wax to increase wear resistance and stability.
  • • Maintain jig records, revisions, and calibration logs, and issue jigs to designated operators or work cells.
