Description
Study and assess the effects of chemicals, drugs, and environmental contaminants on living systems to protect human health, developing testing methods, evaluating exposure and risk, and informing safety standards and interventions.
  • • Plan and direct toxicology studies to assess exposure, dose–response, and mitigation strategies in human, animal, or in vitro models.
  • • Follow strict safety and biosafety procedures when handling toxic agents to prevent contamination and exposure.
  • • Evaluate acute and chronic effects of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and pollutants at molecular, cellular, organ, and whole‑organism levels.
  • • Teach toxicology principles, risk assessment, and laboratory procedures to clinicians, students, and laboratory staff.
  • • Prepare and analyze tissues, cells, blood, urine, and other samples to detect toxins, metabolites, and biomarkers of exposure or effect.
  • • Develop and validate toxicity testing protocols, exposure models, and safety thresholds such as NOAELs and reference doses.
  • • Investigate mechanisms of toxicity and ADME processes, including metabolic activation, bioaccumulation, and interactions.
  • • Collaborate with public health agencies, regulators, and industry to develop exposure limits, safety standards, and remediation plans.
  • • Study toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics across species to translate findings to human health risk.
  • • Advise clinicians, researchers, and product teams on toxicity findings, risk assessments, and safety-by-design strategies.
  • • Use analytical instruments such as GC/MS, LC‑MS/MS, ICP‑MS, HPLC, flow cytometers, and spectroscopy systems.
  • • Develop and apply in vitro, in vivo, and in silico toxicology methods; analyze data and present findings to scientific and public audiences.
  • • Write and publish peer‑reviewed articles and technical reports.
  • • Prepare research grant applications and contribute toxicology sections for regulatory submissions.
