Description
Plan, design, and specify interior and exterior lighting for buildings and spaces. Develop lighting concepts, layouts, photometric analyses, and control strategies that are functional, aesthetic, energy-efficient, and code-compliant. Coordinate with project teams; may specialize in architectural, theatrical, retail, or daylighting design.
- • Estimate lighting equipment, controls, and installation costs; present concepts for approval.
- • Meet with clients to define lighting goals, budget, ambiance, tasks, brand, and maintenance needs.
- • Advise on ambient, task, and accent strategies; color temperature, CRI, glare control, and daylighting.
- • Select and specify luminaires, LED modules, drivers, optics, and lighting control systems.
- • Develop lighting concepts and layouts aligned with function, brand, and user experience.
- • Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, contractors, and AV to integrate lighting and controls.
- • Produce lighting plans, details, schedules, and specifications using CAD/BIM tools.
- • Perform photometric calculations and simulations to meet target illuminance and uniformity.
- • Create renderings, mock-ups, and visualizations of lighting effects.
- • Review and respond to shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs.
- • Ensure compliance with energy codes and standards (IES, NEC, ASHRAE 90.1, Title 24) and life safety.
- • Inspect installations, aim and focus fixtures, and verify adherence to design intent.
- • Program and commission lighting control systems, scenes, and sensors.
- • Incorporate sustainable strategies, including daylight harvesting and high-efficiency fixtures; support LEED/WELL.
- • Research emerging lighting technologies, materials, and control protocols (DALI, DMX, PoE).
- • Prepare O&M documentation and plan for heat management, maintenance, and replacement.
