Description
Under supervision, apply pesticides and related chemicals in forests, woodlands, wetlands, and rangelands to control invasive plants, insects, and diseases and support regeneration. Mix, load, transport, and operate backpack, hose, and vehicle-mounted sprayers; implement measures to protect water, wildlife, workers, and the public; maintain equipment; follow labels and safety protocols; and document applications.
  • • Inspect and test sprayers, pumps, hoses, and nozzles for proper operation and leaks.
  • • Mix and load herbicides, insecticides, dyes, and adjuvants according to labels and SDS.
  • • Apply chemicals with backpack, handheld, hose-reel, or ATV/UTV or truck-mounted sprayers per prescription.
  • • Perform basal bark, cut-stump, foliar, hack-and-squirt, or injection treatments as directed.
  • • Scout treatment areas to identify target species, pest pressure, and disease symptoms.
  • • Verify target and non-target species and mark sensitive plants to avoid off-target impacts.
  • • Monitor wind, temperature, humidity, and inversions to time applications and minimize drift.
  • • Calibrate equipment and measure nozzle flow to achieve required application rates.
  • • Establish buffer zones near water, residences, and sensitive habitat; post treated-area signage.
  • • Record products used, rates, acres treated, weather, and GPS locations to meet regulatory and client requirements.
  • • Operate UTVs, trucks, boats, or trailers to access sites and transport equipment and water.
  • • Maintain and clean sprayers; flush lines; replace worn hoses, filters, and nozzles.
  • • Store chemicals securely and manage empty containers and rinsate per regulations.
  • • Communicate with crew and supervisors about safety, treatment plans, and daily work needs.
  • • Use hand tools to clear access paths, mix stations, or hose routes as needed.
  • • Wear and maintain required PPE; implement spill prevention and response procedures.
  • • Interact with the public on-site and explain safety restrictions and re-entry intervals when necessary.
