Description
Apply principles of environmental engineering and soil science to collect, test, and document soil and soil gas conditions; operate and maintain sampling and remediation equipment; and support site assessment, erosion control, and cleanup of contaminated soils under the direction of engineers or scientists. May assist in developing or optimizing soil testing and remediation methods.
- • Set up, calibrate, and decontaminate soil sampling and field screening equipment.
- • Maintain field logs, boring logs, and digital records.
- • Perform soil assessment work in field and office settings.
- • Review sampling plans and data packages for completeness and QA/QC.
- • Coordinate daily field activities per the work plan and schedule.
- • Order soil sampling supplies and manage inventory.
- • Arrange transport and disposal of contaminated soil, cuttings, and purge water.
- • Inspect sites for erosion and sediment control compliance.
- • Provide technical support for site characterization and remediation planning.
- • Recommend soil management practices to minimize contaminant migration.
- • Oversee drillers and laborers during borings, test pits, and excavations.
- • Assist with soil cleanup and spill response activities.
- • Compile soil data, logs, maps, and figures for environmental reports.
- • Monitor remediation system parameters, such as soil vapor extraction or air sparging, and troubleshoot issues.
- • Support pre-construction soil assessments and soil management plans.
- • Perform basic data analysis and QA/QC of soil and soil gas laboratory results.
- • Assist in developing sampling plans, equipment lists, and health and safety plans.
- • Evaluate soil conditions for natural attenuation or bioremediation potential.
- • Contribute to conceptual site models of contaminant fate and transport in the vadose zone.
- • Decontaminate augers, liners, and hand tools between sampling locations.
- • Collect, label, and ship soil and soil gas samples under chain-of-custody.
- • Support preparation of soil excavation, dewatering, or disposal permits.
- • Record field measurements, sample depths, PID readings, and photographs.
- • Collect and field-screen soil samples and coordinate laboratory analyses.
- • Log subsurface conditions and classify soils using USCS.
- • Perform infiltration or permeability tests and document results.
