Description
Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electric escalators and moving walkways, ensuring safe, reliable operation and compliance with codes and manufacturer specifications.
- • Install, repair, and maintain escalators and moving walks using hand and power tools and test meters.
- • Commission and test units for speed, stopping distance, handrail synchronization, and ride quality.
- • Diagnose faults in motors, gearboxes, brakes, chains, sensors, inverters, and control systems.
- • Verify compliance with safety regulations and building codes, and complete service reports and checklists.
- • Wire and terminate controllers, drives, motors, and safety circuits.
- • Adjust safety devices, brake torque, and speed monitoring per specifications.
- • Align tracks and transition curves; tension step chains, handrails, and drive belts.
- • Replace steps, comb plates, landing plates, rollers, and balustrade components.
- • Inspect wiring, control hookups, sensors, and mechanical clearances to ensure proper operation.
- • Disassemble defective assemblies and replace sprockets, bearings, seals, handrails, and electrical components.
- • Perform preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and pit inspections.
- • Maintain detailed maintenance logs, service records, and parts usage.
- • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and manufacturer manuals.
- • Rig, hoist, and set escalator trusses and assemblies safely.
- • Install and align balustrades, decking, skirt panels, newels, and comb plates at landings.
- • Program and calibrate controllers, VFDs, encoders, and safety circuits.
- • Apply lockout/tagout, barricading, and other jobsite safety procedures.
- • Conduct periodic inspections and tests; document deficiencies and recommend repairs or modernization.
- • Coordinate outages, permits, and parts with building staff and contractors.
- • Participate in ongoing training to keep certifications and skills current.
