Description
Assemble and install electric or hydraulic passenger and freight elevators, aligning, wiring, adjusting, and commissioning systems to meet specifications, safety standards, and building codes.
- • Read and interpret blueprints to plan hoistway, pit, and machine room layouts.
- • Bolt or weld guide rails to shaft walls from scaffolds or platforms.
- • Assemble elevator cars, installing platforms, cab walls, and doors.
- • Install outer doors and frames at each landing.
- • Connect car frames to counterweights with steel cables or chains.
- • Attach guide shoes and rollers to minimize lateral car motion.
- • Install hoisting machines, governors, sheaves, and buffers.
- • Install and connect control panels, drives, and electric motors.
- • Run conduit along shaft walls and pull conductors through conduit.
- • Adjust safety controls, brakes, door operators, and limit switches.
- • Align cars and hoistways, setting clearances and leveling accuracy.
- • Test newly installed elevators for floor leveling, door timing, speed, and ride quality.
- • Troubleshoot and correct issues in brakes, motors, switches, and control circuits during commissioning.
- • Verify compliance with safety regulations and building codes, and complete installation and test reports.
- • Cut and fit rails, framework, and brackets to specified dimensions.
- • Balance and tension ropes, chains, and counterweights.
- • Connect and verify wiring terminations using test lamps, ammeters, and voltmeters.
- • Coordinate rigging and material handling to move and set heavy equipment safely.
- • Maintain installation logs and documentation.
- • Participate in ongoing training to keep skills and certifications current.
