Description
Install, inspect, service, and repair electric and hydraulic passenger and freight elevators to ensure safe, code-compliant operation; may also work on escalators and dumbwaiters.
- • Assemble, install, repair, and maintain elevators using hand and power tools and test instruments.
- • Test new installations for proper leveling, floor stopping times, and performance to specifications.
- • Troubleshoot brakes, motors, switches, and signal/control systems with diagnostic equipment.
- • Verify compliance with safety regulations and building codes; document findings and service actions.
- • Wire control panels, drives, and motors.
- • Adjust safety circuits, counterweights, door operators, valves, brakes, and related components.
- • Read blueprints and schematics to plan layout, hoistway components, and installation methods.
- • Inspect wiring, controller hookups, door installations, car/hoistway alignments, and clearances.
- • Disassemble defective units and repair or replace locks, gears, cables, bearings, and wiring.
- • Maintain detailed service logs and maintenance records.
- • Complete ongoing training and certifications to stay current.
- • Install and adjust guide shoes and rollers to control car travel.
- • Connect car frames to counterweights with hoist ropes.
- • Install and secure guide rails to shaft walls from scaffolds or platforms.
- • Assemble elevator cars, including platforms, walls, ceilings, and doors.
- • Install and align hall doors, sills, and frames at each landing.
- • Run conduit and pull wiring along hoistways; install controls and fixtures.
- • Cut and fit framework, rails, and components to specified dimensions.
- • Operate and test elevators to measure power demand and detect overloads.
- • When required, install or service escalators and dumbwaiters, including motors, tracks, and wiring.
