Description
Install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical power generation and auxiliary systems, switchgear, protective relays, and control circuits in a powerhouse to ensure safe, reliable operation.
- • Install, test, maintain, and repair powerhouse switchgear, protective relays, excitation, and control systems.
- • Inspect and test generators, motors, MCCs, breakers, and circuits using meters and diagnostic tools to locate faults.
- • Consult manuals, schematics, one-lines, and engineering personnel to resolve equipment issues and optimize performance.
- • Notify operators and supervisors of required equipment shutdowns and coordinate lockout/tagout for safe work.
- • Open and close breakers, switches, and disconnects to isolate equipment; adjust, calibrate, or repair components.
- • Prepare and maintain records of inspections, tests, calibrations, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- • Analyze test data and waveforms to diagnose malfunctions and verify system performance or modifications.
- • Test insulation, bushings, and windings on generators, transformers, and switchgear; calculate insulation resistance and loss.
- • Repair, replace, and clean components such as circuit breakers, contactors, motors, generators, brushes, and slip rings.
- • Remove and install excitation and voltage regulation equipment and associated wiring per procedures and safety standards.
- • Install, commission, and support monitoring, SCADA, and control upgrades; supervise contractors as needed.
- • Test and troubleshoot control, communication, and instrument cables; record continuity and signal-quality results.
- • Terminate and splice power and control cables to color-code standards; torque and label terminations; oversee work quality.
- • Sample and test insulating oils in transformers and oil-filled breakers for dielectric strength; filter or refill as needed.
- • Maintain inventories of spare parts and consumables for powerhouse electrical systems, requisitioning parts as necessary.
