Description
Perform tap dance using percussive footwork to create rhythm and expression for stage, broadcast, or video productions.
- • Train and attend tap and conditioning classes to maintain technique, stamina, and sound quality.
- • Study and practice required tap steps, time steps, and combinations.
- • Synchronize footwork and movement to music or counted rhythms with precise timing.
- • Perform tap numbers that convey character, story, and musical phrasing.
- • Collaborate with choreographers and music directors to refine steps, sounds, and phrasing.
- • Coordinate tap patterns with partners or ensembles for unified rhythms and breaks.
- • Attend costume fittings, tap-board or mic checks, photography sessions, and makeup calls.
- • Audition for tap roles or membership in tap companies and musical theater productions.
- • Assess physical capabilities and select footwear and styles accordingly; prevent injury.
- • Monitor tap trends, repertoire, and innovations in technique and sound.
- • Teach tap technique and repertoire to students.
- • Choreograph tap pieces for self or others.
- • Sing or act in productions in addition to dancing, if required.
- • Prepare and maintain tap shoes by attaching or replacing taps and tightening screws.
