Description
Advise and support students and families in financing education. Explain and package federal, state, and institutional aid—grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study—and clarify eligibility, requirements, and policies. Assist with applications and verification, counsel on budgeting and loan repayment, coordinate disbursements, and ensure compliance with financial aid regulations.
  • • Advise students and families via in-person, phone, email, and online channels about financial aid options.
  • • Review FAFSA/SAI, tax returns, and financial documents to determine eligibility.
  • • Calculate cost of attendance, financial need, and award eligibility.
  • • Evaluate and package aid awards in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policies.
  • • Assist students with completing applications, verification, and required documentation.
  • • Explain rights, responsibilities, and policies for grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study.
  • • Conduct intake interviews to gather academic and financial information.
  • • Maintain accurate aid records, documentation, and notes in compliance with FERPA.
  • • Coordinate with bursar and registrar to resolve holds, apply aid, and arrange payment plans.
  • • Prepare and deliver award notifications, revisions, and appeal decisions.
  • • Counsel on prudent borrowing, budgeting, and strategies to minimize out-of-pocket costs.
  • • Provide resources on scholarships, financial literacy, and loan counseling.
  • • Recommend strategies to meet college costs, including grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans.
  • • Refer students to campus or community resources for emergency aid or basic needs.
  • • Process changes in enrollment or family circumstances and apply professional judgment when appropriate.
  • • Advise on aid implications of enrollment status, housing choices, and academic plans.
  • • Research and resolve conflicting information, verification discrepancies, and eligibility issues.
  • • Develop action plans and timelines for completing aid steps and meeting deadlines.
  • • Monitor aid disbursements, refunds, and Return of Title IV funds as required.
  • • Educate students on loan terms, borrower rights, repayment options, and exit counseling.
  • • Explain federal and private loan types, eligibility, borrowing limits, and interest.
  • • Investigate missing disbursements, returned funds, or account discrepancies and pursue resolution.
  • • Conduct workshops and outreach on FAFSA, scholarships, financial aid literacy, and repayment planning.
  • • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and support audits or reviews.
