Description
Advise individuals on managing credit and debt, including budgeting, loan options, and debt management plans. Assess financial situations, explain loan requirements and restrictions, develop repayment or student aid strategies, and counsel on housing, bankruptcy, and consumer protections.
  • • Advise clients and respond to credit and debt inquiries in person, by phone, email, or chat.
  • • Review income, assets, debts, expenses, and credit reports to assess financial status.
  • • Calculate disposable income available for debt repayment.
  • • Develop debt management plans, spending plans, and budgets.
  • • Estimate timelines for debt payoff based on balances, interest rates, and available funds.
  • • Explain program rules, service advantages and limits, and creditor concession policies.
  • • Conduct intake interviews to gather financial and personal information.
  • • Maintain and update client records, transactions, notes, and correspondence.
  • • Negotiate with creditors for payment adjustments, interest reductions, extensions, or repayment plans.
  • • Prepare written recommendations, agreements, and client communications.
  • • Prioritize debts to reduce costs and avoid bankruptcy, foreclosure, or repossession.
  • • Provide educational resources on budgeting, credit, and financial planning.
  • • Recommend strategies such as loan options, bankruptcy referrals, budget changes, or enrollment in debt management plans.
  • • Refer clients to social services and community resources for needs beyond credit counseling.
  • • Monitor changes in client circumstances and adjust plans as needed.
  • • Counsel on housing issues, including rental, homeownership, mortgage delinquency, and foreclosure prevention.
  • • Research to help prevent repossessions or foreclosures and resolve levies or wage garnishments.
  • • Create action plans to help clients secure permanent housing through rent or mortgage programs.
  • • Disburse client funds to creditors under approved plans.
  • • Educate clients on credit scores, bankruptcy laws, consumer protections, wage attachments, and collection actions.
  • • Explain loan types, eligibility requirements, terms, and restrictions.
  • • Investigate missing checks, payment histories, held funds, or returned checks to resolve issues.
  • • Teach workshops or webinars on budgeting, personal finance management, or financial literacy.
