Assist ecologists in managing, restoring, and protecting natural resources by conducting field surveys, collecting and processing ecological data, and implementing conservation practices without harming the environment. Support soil and water conservation, habitat assessments, and restoration projects; maintain GIS and monitoring records; and provide technical field support to landowners and agencies.
  • • Implement soil and water management practices per conservation plans under supervision.
  • • Collect soil, water, vegetation, and wildlife data in the field.
  • • Install and maintain erosion control measures, buffers, or filter strips.
  • • Assist land users, such as farmers or ranchers, with conservation practice layout and use.
  • • Monitor construction and restoration sites for conformance to design specifications.
  • • Visit and survey erosion sites to document causes, conditions, and GPS locations.
  • • Maintain working relationships with local agencies, conservation districts, and landowners.
  • • Apply basic agronomy, soil science, forestry, or ecology principles during fieldwork.
  • • Compile and analyze GIS data to support land-use and habitat recommendations.
  • • Assist with calculations and drawings for conservation practice designs.
  • • Support teams implementing habitat, wetland, groundwater, or soil projects.
  • • Help coordinate field meetings among landowners and agencies to share findings.
  • • Conduct follow-up site visits to verify practice installation and performance.
  • • Provide basic information or referrals regarding wetland jurisdiction questions.
  • • Prepare cost and material estimates for conservation practices.
  • • Provide technical assistance or training materials on soil or water practices.
  • • Analyze monitoring results to recommend maintenance or corrective actions.
  • • Track and report progress for technical, financial, or assistance programs.
  • • Scout and help implement integrated weed and pest management strategies.
  • • Assist with field data collection for wetland restoration planning or easements.
  • • Conduct ecological surveys or studies to inform corrective action plans.
  • • Maintain field office supplies, vehicles, tools, and sampling equipment.
  • • Help plan layouts for crop rotation, reforestation, permanent vegetation, contouring, or terracing.
  • • Assist with compliance checks and documentation for program requirements.
  • • Gather ET and weather data to support water conservation or irrigation scheduling.
  • • Enter environmental data into databases and web-based decision tools.
  • • Delineate and map wetlands and habitats using GPS, GIS, and field indicators.
  • • Compile and interpret biodata to support project design and permitting.
  • • Prepare summary reports, maps, photos, and annual data for supervisors and partners.
  • • Support grant reporting with field data, metrics, and documentation.
