Plan and implement conservation practices to protect and enhance soil, water, and habitat resources while supporting sustainable land use. Conduct assessments, develop and coordinate conservation plans, and guide landowners and local partners on best practices such as erosion control, grazing management, and water conservation. Provide technical assistance, training, and compliance support, and monitor outcomes to ensure environmental and regulatory objectives are met.
  • • Implement soil and water conservation practices, such as nutrient management, erosion control, buffers, and filter strips, in line with approved plans.
  • • Respond to wetland jurisdiction questions and provide technical guidance.
  • • Estimate costs and life-cycle needs for conservation practices.
  • • Deliver technical training and support to government partners on soil and water management.
  • • Analyze field and monitoring data to determine needed conservation measures.
  • • Coordinate technical, financial, and administrative assistance for local conservation programs.
  • • Identify and recommend integrated weed and pest management (IPM) strategies.
  • • Review wetland restoration easements and provide technical input.
  • • Plan and conduct surveys or studies to support corrective action plans.
  • • Coordinate field activities and partner work to meet project timelines and goals.
  • • Develop conservation plans for soil and water, including crop rotation, reforestation, permanent vegetation, contouring, and terracing.
  • • Schedule and conduct audits or compliance checks of program implementation.
  • • Create water conservation or harvesting plans using weather, ET, and irrigation management data.
  • • Review or recommend updates to local water plans and conservation district plans.
  • • Design and conduct environmental studies, such as plant trials or habitat assessments.
  • • Enter and analyze local environmental data in web-based decision tools.
  • • Compile and interpret biological data to delineate wetlands or inform program design.
  • • Review annual reports from counties or districts for compliance with reporting requirements.
  • • Evaluate grant proposals and prepare or recommend funding actions.
  • • Advise farmers, ranchers, and other land users on conservation options and solutions.
  • • Monitor practice installation and construction to verify compliance with designs and specifications.
  • • Inspect erosion-impacted areas to diagnose causes and recommend remedies.
  • • Develop and maintain working relationships with local boards, conservation districts, and agency staff.
  • • Apply agronomy, soil science, forestry, and agricultural principles to achieve conservation goals.
  • • Use GIS data and tools to inform land use and restoration recommendations.
  • • Prepare design specifications and layouts for conservation practices using surveys, guides, and manuals.
  • • Participate on teams to plan and deliver habitat, wetland, groundwater, and soil improvement programs.
  • • Facilitate fact-finding or mediation among agencies and landowners to resolve resource issues.
  • • Conduct follow-up site visits to evaluate implemented practices and provide further guidance.
  • • Develop and update soil maps.
