CNC Swiss Programmer (Computer Numerically Controlled Swiss Programmer)
Computer Numerically Controlled Tool ProgrammersDescription
Program, prove out, and optimize CNC Swiss-type lathes to machine precision components from bar stock. Create and edit multi-channel programs, select tools and guide bushings, set up and maintain equipment, and support production to meet tight tolerances and throughput.
- • Plan multi-axis Swiss sequences across main and subspindles, including pickoff, cutoff, and backworking, and select tools, guide bushings, and collets.
- • Revise and debug multi-channel programs to remove alarms, chatter, and burrs; reprove to confirm fixes.
- • Interpret drawings and GD&T to define critical dimensions, tolerances, tool choices, speeds, and feeds for small-diameter bar work.
- • Set zeros, tool and wear offsets, live-tool planes, and synchronization points; compute polar and cylindrical interpolation moves.
- • Simulate in CAM and run safe prove-outs to verify synchronization, clearance, and part conformance.
- • Verify programs against prints and models; perform first-article and in-process checks using appropriate metrology.
- • Load and manage programs at the control via DNC/USB; make controlled on-machine edits.
- • Write and edit G/M-code for Fanuc/Mitsubishi Swiss controls and manage program revisions and backups.
- • Optimize programs for cycle time, surface finish, chip control, and tool life; apply high-pressure coolant and peck strategies.
- • Post-process and transfer programs from CAM; maintain tool libraries, posts, and templates.
- • Build CAM operations for turning, milling, drilling, thread whirling, and polygon machining; plan pickoff and backworking flows.
- • Create setup sheets, tool and holder lists, collet and guide bushing specs, and bar feeder settings.
- • Schedule and group jobs by material, bar diameter, and tooling to cut setup time and maximize lights-out throughput.
- • Develop synchronization charts and channel timelines to coordinate main/subspindle and live-tool operations.
- • Perform preventive maintenance on Swiss lathes, including guide bushing service, collet inspection, coolant and filter changes, and chip management.
