Description
Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machines to machine parts from metal, plastic, or other materials per blueprints and programs. Load and edit programs, align tooling and fixtures, adjust offsets and feeds/speeds, inspect parts, and perform routine maintenance.
  • • Read and interpret blueprints, job travelers, and CNC program specifications.
  • • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or routers to machine metal or plastic parts.
  • • Mount, align, and secure tooling, fixtures, and workpieces using hand tools and precision instruments.
  • • Load and run CNC programs; set work and tool offsets.
  • • Calculate and adjust feeds, speeds, depths of cut, and tool paths as needed.
  • • Measure first-article and in-process parts with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and fixtures.
  • • Monitor machine operation and control displays; listen for unusual sounds or vibration.
  • • Edit programs or offsets to correct issues and save approved changes.
  • • Change dull, broken, or worn cutting tools and re-establish offsets.
  • • Verify proper coolant flow and lubrication; control coolant systems.
  • • Stop machines to remove finished parts or change setups according to sequence.
  • • Lift and position workpieces manually or with hoists or cranes.
  • • Maintain a clean machine and work area; clean chips, tooling, and parts.
  • • Perform routine machine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • • Transfer programs via network or USB and back up revised files.
  • • Enter commands and parameters at the controller to start or resume operations.
  • • Review dimensions and tolerances and document inspection results.
  • • Confer with leads, engineers, or programmers to resolve malfunctions or production errors.
  • • Set up subsequent jobs while machines are running to reduce downtime.
  • • Stack, tag, or move finished parts to the next operation or conveyor.
  • • Implement approved engineering changes and update job settings.
  • • Write or prove out simple CNC programs for basic operations.
