Description
Assess, diagnose, and treat psychological and behavioral health concerns using interviews, observation, and standardized tests. Provide individual and group therapy to improve personal, social, educational, and vocational functioning. Design evidence-based interventions and consult with interdisciplinary teams on care plans while maintaining thorough documentation. May conduct research, develop programs, and train or supervise staff and trainees.
  • • Collect client information via interviews, case histories, observation, and standardized assessments.
  • • Provide individual, group, or family counseling for insight, crisis support, goal setting, and action planning.
  • • Document sessions, progress, recommendations, and treatment plans.
  • • Facilitate insight, goal setting, and action planning to support personal, social, educational, or vocational adjustment.

  • • Specify type, frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy in treatment plans.
  • • Collaborate with professionals, agencies, or universities on therapies, resources, and best practices.
  • • Refer clients to specialists, programs, or community supports as needed.
  • • Stay current with psychological research and evidence-based practices.
  • • Consult scholarly and clinical references to inform diagnosis and treatment.
  • • Observe behavior across settings to detect cognitive, developmental, or behavioral concerns.
  • • Deliver consulting, education, outreach, and prevention programs to schools, agencies, businesses, or the public.
  • • Provide occupational and educational guidance to support planning and decision-making.
  • • Plan and develop psychological service programs in clinical settings with interdisciplinary teams.
  • • Direct, coordinate, and evaluate staff and trainees involved in assessment and treatment.
  • • Develop, lead, and participate in training programs for staff and students.
  • • Advise private firms or community agencies on mental health programs and cases.
  • • Conduct research to develop or improve diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
  • • Plan, conduct, and publish psychological research.
