Description
Diagnose, maintain, and repair buses, including diesel, CNG, and hybrid powertrains, and related mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Perform inspections, adjustments, and overhauls to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant bus operation.
  • • Use hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, gauges) and power tools (pneumatic wrenches, welders, lathes, jacks/hoists).
  • • Inspect air brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical bus components.
  • • Perform routine bus maintenance: oil and filter changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
  • • Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, torque fasteners, and reassemble components.
  • • Raise buses and heavy components using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • • Test drive buses to diagnose issues and verify repairs.
  • • Diagnose faults by inspecting, testing, and listening, using scan tools, motor analyzers, chassis charts, or pressure gauges.
  • • Examine and adjust guards, loose bolts, and required safety devices and interlocks.
  • • Verify dimensions and clearances to meet manufacturer specifications.
  • • Repair and maintain engine systems, including fuel injection and turbochargers.
  • • Attach diagnostic instruments and read dials, gauges, and software outputs to troubleshoot.
  • • Repair wiring, lighting, and instrument panels.
  • • Recondition or replace parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
  • • Inspect, repair, and maintain onboard systems such as air compressors, pumps, and hydraulics.
  • • Disassemble and overhaul engines, alternators, automatic transmissions, clutches (where applicable), and differentials.
  • • Rebuild diesel, CNG, or hybrid power units.
  • • Align front ends and service suspension and air-ride systems.
  • • Grind and reset valves using valve-grinding equipment.
  • • Diagnose and repair bus HVAC and engine cooling systems.
  • • Adjust or repair computer-controlled emissions and aftertreatment devices (e.g., EGR, DPF, SCR).
  • • Follow green practices to conserve water and energy and reduce waste.
  • • Maintain or repair buses with alternative fuel systems, including biodiesel, hybrid, or compressed natural gas.
  • • Measure emissions to verify compliance with regulations.
  • • Install or repair bus accessories and equipment.
  • • Repair and adjust seats, pneumatic doors, windows, and wheelchair lifts/ramps.
  • • Dismount, mount, and repair or replace bus tires.
