Broadcast Technicians
Description
Set up, operate, and maintain audio, video, lighting, and control-room systems for live and recorded productions. Configure signal flow and automation, monitor quality, and coordinate with crew to acquire, edit, and deliver content in studio and field environments.
  • • Maintain production, as-run, and transmission logs per company and regulatory requirements.
  • • Operate audio consoles to regulate volume, mix sources, and ensure consistent sound quality during productions.
  • • Monitor and adjust incoming and outgoing audio/video signals and routing to maintain quality standards.
  • • Shade cameras and regulate video fidelity, color, brightness, and contrast from control panels.
  • • Observe program and preview monitors and communicate with directors and crew to verify correct on-air/record status.
  • • Perform preflight checks of rundowns, playlists, and media to ensure assets are ready for playout.
  • • Select and route program, graphics, and remote sources through routers, switchers, and comms systems.
  • • Report equipment issues, open service tickets, and perform emergency fixes when feasible.
  • • Record and ingest audio and video, verifying levels, formats, and timecode.
  • • Set up and align field gear—cameras, audio kits, IFB/comms, and wireless/RF systems—for remote shoots.
  • • Execute backups or alternate content when primary feeds fail.
  • • Prepare studios, sets, and stages; place lighting, cameras, and cabling for shoots.
  • • Train crew members and freelancers on production equipment and standard operating procedures.
  • • Load and follow rundowns; trigger automation and playout for live, live-to-tape, and on-demand events.
  • • Edit and QC media assets using non-linear editing software.
  • • Provide technical direction during filming and live events to ensure clean execution.
  • • Set up and operate portable transmission or backhaul solutions (bonded cellular, IP, or satellite) in the field.
  • • Determine microphone types, counts, and placement; set gains and coordinate RF for optimal capture.
  • • Fabricate or modify cables, brackets, and simple fixtures to meet production needs.
  • • Produce shift reports, as-run logs, and postmortems summarizing issues and outcomes.
  • • Liaise with producers and clients to confirm technical requirements, formats, and delivery specs.
  • • Monitor and log system health, control-room readings, and storage utilization.
  • • Operate playout, recording, and media asset management systems to play and capture content.
  • • Install and maintain production computers, control surfaces, and media networks; troubleshoot and perform minor repairs.
  • • Create and deliver dubs, exports, and transcodes in required formats.
  • • Assist with crew call sheets and shift scheduling when needed.
