Description
Inspect, sample, test, and document biomass fuel quality; calibrate measurement devices; coordinate with operations on blending and handling; and maintain safe, compliant fuel quality control processes.
- • Sample and monitor incoming biomass feedstock for moisture, BTU, ash, size, and contaminants.
- • Assess and grade fuel loads against specifications and acceptance criteria.
- • Calculate blend ratios and oversee mixing to meet target fuel specifications.
- • Calibrate and verify fuel, chemical, and water meters and flow devices.
- • Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on lab instruments and sampling equipment.
- • Operate and verify sampling systems, conveyors, and feeders during quality checks.
- • Preprocess and size samples (chipping, shredding, sieving) for representative testing.
- • Operate sample ovens or dryers and perform moisture, ash, volatile matter, and HHV tests.
- • Inspect fuel handling and processing equipment and report defects affecting fuel integrity.
- • Record and report fuel quality data and meter readings in LIMS, CMMS, or logs.
- • Coordinate with operations to adjust feed rates, blending, or preprocessing based on quality results.
- • Verify boiler or gasifier fuel feed quality meets operating specifications and alert operators to deviations.
- • Manage lab reagents, sampling supplies, and spare parts inventory.
- • Maintain clean and organized lab and sampling areas to meet safety and quality standards.
- • Read and follow SOPs, test methods, SDS, and equipment manuals.
- • Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for off-spec fuel or process upsets.
- • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and fuel-quality regulations and documentation requirements.
- • Operate forklifts or loaders, when needed, to access piles and collect representative samples safely.
