Description
Perform precise dimensional measurements of vehicle bodies, frames, and suspension to assess collision damage, support repair planning, verify structural alignment, and document pre- and post-repair conditions using electronic and manual measuring systems.
- • Set up vehicles on frame benches or alignment racks for accurate measurement.
- • Chain or clamp frames and sections to measuring or alignment fixtures per procedure.
- • Locate and mark OEM datum points, centerlines, and reference holes.
- • Use laser, 3D, and tram measuring tools to record body, frame, and suspension dimensions.
- • Cross-measure diagonals and record height, width, and length at specified sections.
- • Measure panel gap and flushness and record variances from specifications.
- • Review damage reports, repair plans, and OEM dimensions to define measurement scope.
- • Create pre-repair measurement blueprints with photos and annotations.
- • Support technicians in planning pulls and anchor locations based on measurement data.
- • Monitor pulls in real time and communicate when dimensional targets are reached.
- • Verify placement and fit of replacement parts against dimensional targets.
- • Perform post-repair measurements to confirm structural alignment within tolerance.
- • Document results and generate measurement reports for estimators, insurers, and customers.
- • Remove trim and interior panels as needed to access measurement points safely.
- • Clean and prepare reference surfaces to ensure accurate readings.
- • Inspect underbody, suspension, and mounting points for deformation or movement.
- • Measure wheelbase, track, ride height, and alignment angles and refer issues for correction.
- • Calibrate and maintain measuring equipment and perform daily verification checks.
- • Maintain organized records and digital data for each repair order.
- • Follow safety procedures and protect finished surfaces during measuring operations.
- • Communicate findings and recommended corrections to supervisors and repair teams.
- • Correlate road-test alignment observations with measurement data.
- • Adhere to production schedules and time standards for measurement tasks.
- • Keep the work area clean and compliant with shop policies.
