Description
Install, activate, and repair cable television, internet, and phone services by running and terminating coaxial and fiber-optic lines, installing customer-premises equipment, testing and balancing signal levels, and performing routine maintenance in homes and businesses.
- • Run, terminate, and repair coaxial and fiber-optic drops using hand tools, compression/crimp tools, and splicing equipment.
- • Install, activate, and service set-top boxes, cable modems, routers, and optical network terminals.
- • Test, balance, and document signal levels, SNR, and continuity using signal level meters, spectrum analyzers, and TDR/OTDR tools.
- • Diagnose and correct service issues such as no signal, ingress/egress, noise, or slow speeds.
- • Confer with customers to determine service needs and explain installation options, findings, and repairs.
- • Adjust splitters, taps, attenuators, and amplifiers to meet specifications and optimize performance; place Wi-Fi access points for best coverage.
- • Instruct customers on the safe and proper use of set-top boxes, remotes, modems/routers, and account features.
- • Provide cost estimates for new outlets, rewiring, additional equipment, or special construction.
- • Read and interpret system maps, utility locates, wiring diagrams, building plans, and work orders.
- • Complete work orders and maintain records of signal readings, test results, photos, and maintenance reports.
- • Route, secure, and label cabling; mount network interface devices, splitters, and enclosures; perform grounding and bonding to code; make field service calls including aerial or attic/basement work with ladders and safety gear.
