Analyze observations, radar, satellite, and model output to produce and communicate timely weather forecasts, warnings, and briefings for the public, media, and specialized users. Create graphics, deliver reports across platforms, and update products to support safety and operational decisions.
  • • Prepare and distribute weather maps and products for mobile apps and websites.
  • • Monitor and quality-control surface, upper-air, radar, satellite, and lightning observations.
  • • Launch or monitor upper-air soundings and weather balloons when required.
  • • Analyze numerical weather prediction models and ensemble guidance.
  • • Produce short-term, extended, and nowcast forecasts for defined service areas.
  • • Issue and update watches, warnings, and advisories for hazardous weather.
  • • Prepare aviation and marine forecasts, such as TAFs and coastal or nearshore outlooks.
  • • Create forecast graphics, maps, and animations for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • • Write forecast discussions, situation reports, and decision support briefs.
  • • Deliver on-air, web, and social media weather reports and safety messaging.
  • • Brief emergency managers, transportation agencies, utilities, and other stakeholders.
  • • Coordinate with adjacent offices, national centers, and media partners for consistent messaging.
  • • Verify forecast performance and maintain statistics to improve accuracy.
  • • Adjust forecasts based on real-time observations, mesoscale analysis, and model trends.
  • • Maintain 24/7 shift operations and prioritize tasks during high-impact events.
  • • Develop or refine scripts, tools, and workflows to automate data ingest and graphics.
  • • Conduct post-event analyses and case studies to improve forecasting techniques.
  • • Incorporate climatological normals and historical records to contextualize forecasts.
  • • Produce site-specific wind, temperature, precipitation, and air quality outlooks.
  • • Assess weather impacts on public safety, transportation, energy, and scheduled events.
  • • Answer public inquiries and provide outreach on weather preparedness.
  • • Coordinate with hydrologists on flood outlooks and river forecasts.
  • • Train staff, interns, and partners on forecast tools, procedures, and hazard communication.
  • • Maintain archives, logs, and documentation of significant weather events and products.
