Description
Provide daily care to pets and other non-livestock animals by feeding, watering, grooming, bathing, exercising, and monitoring health to promote well-being. Work in kennels, shelters, zoos, aquariums, and similar facilities, following species-specific care plans. Maintain records of feedings, treatments, intake and discharge, and assist with sanitation and minor enclosure repairs.
- • Feed and water animals per schedules and instructions.
- • Observe animals to detect signs of illness, stress, or injury.
- • Record weights, behaviors, treatments, medications, and food intake.
- • Clean, disinfect, and maintain cages, pens, stalls, and tanks.
- • Groom animals, including bathing, brushing, nail trims, and ear cleaning.
- • Exercise animals to support physical and mental health.
- • Mix and administer food, formulas, and prescribed medications as directed.
- • Assist veterinarians or technicians with treatments and procedures.
- • Clean and disinfect equipment and instruments after use.
- • Monitor and adjust enclosure temperature and humidity as directed.
- • Transfer animals safely between enclosures for cleaning, transport, or exhibits.
- • Maintain and perform minor repairs on feeders, waterers, lights, and enclosures.
- • Order, receive, and store feed, bedding, and supplies.
- • Answer phones, schedule services, and update client or animal records.
- • Provide visitors or owners with information on animal behavior, care, and facility rules.
- • Supervise interactions in petting or feeding areas to ensure safety.
- • Discuss grooming needs and service options with clients.
- • Assist with adoption processes and matching animals with homes.
- • Train or reinforce basic behaviors to support handling and enrichment.
- • Do laundry and maintain cleanliness of equipment, tack, and work areas.
- • Sell pet food and supplies and process payments, if applicable.
- • Follow biosecurity, sanitation, and safety protocols.
