Description
Provide daily animal care and reproductive support in farm or research settings. Monitor health and welfare, assist with selection and breeding based on pedigrees and traits, operate artificial insemination equipment and protocols, and maintain detailed records of heats, birth intervals, and lineage.
- • Feed and water animals, and clean and disinfect pens, cages, yards, and hutches.
- • Observe animals to detect signs of illness, injury, stress, or abnormal behavior.
- • Administer or assist with vaccinations and routine medications per protocols.
- • Monitor estrus cycles and behavior to support breeding schedules; exercise animals as needed.
- • Assist with selection of breeding pairs and semen sources based on pedigrees and desired traits.
- • Prepare, calibrate, and maintain artificial insemination equipment and supplies.
- • Perform or assist with artificial insemination following SOPs and biosecurity standards.
- • Maintain logs of breedings, heat cycles, birth intervals, and semen use.

- • Dilute and handle semen according to prescribed formulas and handling procedures.
- • Weigh animals and record growth, feed intake, and other performance data.
- • Treat minor injuries and ailments; coordinate veterinary care for serious conditions.
- • Assist with parturition, neonatal care, and colostrum management.
- • Tag, tattoo, or microchip animals for identification.
- • Maintain environmental conditions, including temperature, ventilation, and lighting.
- • Clean, maintain, and set up enclosures and equipment; perform minor repairs.
