Description
Operate ambulances to safely transport sick, injured, or convalescent persons; assist EMTs with patient handling and basic care; and maintain vehicle readiness.
- • Safely operate ambulances for emergency and non-emergency transports.
- • Navigate routes using maps or GPS and follow traffic laws and emergency vehicle protocols.
- • Use lights, sirens, and radio communications per dispatch and agency policies.
- • Assist EMTs with lifting, moving, and securing patients on stretchers and in the ambulance.
- • Place patients on stretchers and load/unload stretchers, usually with assistance.
- • Replace supplies and disposable items and restock after calls.
- • Clean and disinfect ambulances, rigs, and equipment; remove and replace soiled linens.
- • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections and perform minor vehicle maintenance.
- • Document trip times, mileage, and incidents; report facts to hospital personnel or law enforcement as required.
- • Provide basic first aid, such as bandaging, splinting, or administering oxygen, within certification and direction.
- • Assist in safely restraining agitated patients per protocol.
- • Earn and maintain required licenses and certifications (e.g., driver’s license, EVOC, CPR).
