Description
Evaluate, train, and certify airline pilots on type, conducting simulator, proficiency, and line checks to ensure safe, standardized operations in accordance with FAA regulations and company procedures. Requires ATP and aircraft type rating with designated Check Airman authorization; maintains line currency while supporting pilot training, standardization, and safety.
- • Conduct initial, transition, recurrent, and upgrade training in aircraft and simulators.
- • Administer proficiency, competency, and line checks per FAA regulations and company ops specs.
- • Evaluate pilot performance in normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures.
- • Conduct IOE and line observations to qualify pilots on aircraft type and routes.
- • Deliver pre-briefs and debriefs with targeted feedback and remedial training plans.
- • Certify pilot qualifications and document results in training and regulatory records.
- • Ensure adherence to FARs, company SOPs, MEL/CDL, and SMS policies during checks.
- • Assess use of FMS, autopilot, and instrument procedures, including low-visibility operations.
- • Verify accurate weight-and-balance, performance, and fuel planning techniques.
- • Observe checklist discipline, cockpit flows, and sterile-cockpit compliance.
- • Monitor ATC communications, clearances, and radio phraseology for standardization.
- • Evaluate crew resource management and threat-and-error management.
- • Conduct LOFT scenarios to assess decision-making and situational awareness.
- • Coordinate training schedules, fleets, and scenarios with flight ops and training centers.
- • Develop and update training syllabi, lesson plans, and standardization guidance.
- • Record flight and simulator times, maneuvers, and grading metrics.
- • Prepare evaluation reports and maintain secure training files for audits.
- • Recommend additional training or removal from duty when standards are not met.
- • Provide special airport, route, and terrain familiarization and checks.
- • Participate in instructor standardization meetings and calibration flights.
- • Maintain check airman and line currency; operate as PIC/FO on revenue flights as required.
- • Support safety investigations and trend analysis with training insights.
- • Brief crews on duties, responsibilities, and test procedures before evaluations.
- • Coordinate with dispatch and meteorology to build realistic training and check scenarios.
