Description
Diagnose, service, repair, and overhaul aircraft landing gear systems and components—including struts, wheels, brakes, steering, retraction, and door mechanisms—to ensure safe gear operation and regulatory compliance.
  • • Read and interpret OEM manuals, IPCs, and service bulletins for landing gear maintenance and repairs.
  • • Inspect completed landing gear work to verify airworthiness and compliance with standards.
  • • Maintain logs and records for landing gear inspections, servicing, and overhauls.
  • • Perform routine and special landing gear inspections per regulations and schedules.
  • • Examine struts, actuators, uplocks, downlocks, trunnions, axles, and doors for wear, leaks, cracks, and corrosion.
  • • Inspect wheels, tires, brakes, and anti-skid components for condition and limits.
  • • Jack aircraft and perform gear swing tests to verify extension, retraction, and door sequencing.
  • • Service oleo struts with hydraulic fluid and nitrogen to specified extension.
  • • Replace wheels and tires; balance, torque, and safety as required.
  • • Overhaul and service brakes; bleed systems and test anti-skid operation.
  • • Clean, inspect, pack, and set preload on wheel bearings.
  • • Replace seals, O-rings, bushings, pins, and bearings in landing gear assemblies.
  • • Repair or replace hydraulic lines, hoses, and fittings; perform pressure and leak checks.
  • • Rig and adjust uplock/downlock mechanisms, proximity sensors, and gear/door linkages.
  • • Troubleshoot gear indication and warning systems; perform electrical continuity and functional checks.
  • • Use precision instruments to measure wear, runout, and clearances against limits.
  • • Perform NDT on landing gear components using dye penetrant, magnetic particle, or eddy current methods.
  • • Mark and lay out reference lines on parts per drawings and templates.
  • • Fabricate shims, spacers, and simple brackets to restore fit within tolerances.
  • • Clean, strip, prime, and paint landing gear components to prevent corrosion.
  • • Cure bonded linings or bushings using approved portable or stationary equipment.
  • • Assemble and install repaired or replacement landing gear and door components.
  • • Align and torque fasteners; apply safety wire or cotter pins per specifications.
  • • Operate hydraulic mules or test stands to function-test landing gear systems.
  • • Read and interpret pilot reports and discrepancy entries to diagnose gear faults.
  • • Remove and install landing gear struts, actuators, and doors using jacks, hoists, and slings.
  • • Verify tire-to-structure clearances and shim as required.
  • • Check brake wear indicators and fuse plugs; replace components outside limits.
  • • Coordinate with structures, hydraulics, and avionics teams to resolve complex gear issues.
  • • Maintain FOD control and use safety pins, downlocks, and lockout/tagout during maintenance.
  • • Inventory and requisition landing gear parts, consumables, and tooling.
  • • Prepare and protect adjacent areas before sanding, stripping, or painting.
  • • Document maintenance performed and return-to-service actions per company and regulatory requirements.
  • • Comply with environmental and hazmat procedures for hydraulic fluids, greases, and solvents.
  • • Conduct borescope or detailed visual inspections of trunnions and bores for wear and corrosion.
  • • Support taxi or functional checks to validate landing gear and brake performance.
