Description
Lay out, mark, and cut fabric and other materials for garments based on patterns and specifications, optimizing yield and accuracy to prepare parts for sewing and assembly.
- • Review tech packs, patterns, and work orders to define cut plans.
- • Spread and align fabric layers, considering grain, nap, stretch, and pattern matching.
- • Inspect fabric for flaws and shade variations; mark and isolate defects.
- • Position patterns or markers to maximize yield and maintain design alignment.
- • Mark cutting lines, notches, drill points, and placement lines on fabric.
- • Cut fabric by hand with shears or knives, or using powered or automated cutters.
- • Cut linings, interfacings, fusibles, and trims per specifications.
- • Adjust seam allowances and marker placements to meet fit and tolerance.
- • Create, size, or modify markers for different styles and size runs.
- • Bundle and label cut parts with size, style, and job identifiers.
- • Verify piece counts and measurements against patterns and BOMs.
- • Transfer pattern markings to pieces using chalk, punches, or drills.
- • Maintain fabric drape and proportions through accurate cutting practices.
- • Record cut tickets, yardage used, and waste for tracking and costing.
- • Maintain and sharpen blades; replace knives and service cutting equipment.
- • Keep cutting tables organized and adhere to safety procedures.
- • Coordinate with pattern makers and sewing teams to resolve cut issues.
- • Estimate fabric requirements and yields for orders and samples.
- • Plan layouts for stripes, plaids, and directional prints to match seams.
- • Trim excess material and square edges as needed before bundling.
- • Position and cut specialty materials such as leather or stretch fabrics using proper methods.
- • Store and stage cut bundles for production and update job status.
