Description
Design, craft, alter, repair, clean, and restyle fur and shearling garments and accessories, ensuring proper fit, pelt quality, and longevity.
  • • Fit and assess fur garments on clients to determine alterations and restyling.
  • • Sew pelts and linings using fur machines and hand-stitching techniques.
  • • Measure garment sections and mark alterations on the leather side to protect fur.
  • • Shorten or lengthen hems and sleeves by taking up or letting out pelts.
  • • Let out or take in seams and panels to improve fit and balance.
  • • Align, match, and baste pelts before final stitching.
  • • Remove stitches from the leather side carefully to prevent pelt or hair damage.
  • • Tag garments with measurements, alteration notes, and client instructions.
  • • Review work orders and specs to confirm required services and deadlines.
  • • Fit, alter, repair, and create made-to-measure fur garments to client specs.
  • • Maintain drape, nap direction, and pelt alignment during alterations.
  • • Clean, condition, and glaze fur; block and steam linings to shape.
  • • Trim excess leather and fur; shear or sculpt pile as needed.
  • • Design or adapt styles and draft pelt patterns using letting-out techniques.
  • • Restyle pieces by changing silhouettes, collars, cuffs, and lengths.
  • • Measure clients and record measurements, posture, and preference notes.
  • • Estimate labor, pelt quantities, and materials to price projects accurately.
  • • Repair tears; replace linings, pockets, hooks, zippers, and closures.
  • • Consult on fur types, colors, faux options, and style details.
  • • Match, grade, and cut pelts to patterns, minimizing waste and mismatches.
  • • Install closures such as fur hooks, buttons, snaps, and loops.
  • • Reinforce stress points with tapes, interfacing, and shoulder stays.
