Description
Use medical and public health expertise to protect and improve population health by preventing disease, injury, disability, and premature death. Lead surveillance, epidemiologic investigations, health promotion, policy and program development, and coordinate community-wide prevention efforts; may provide clinical services within public health programs.
- • Train healthcare and public health staff on prevention and population health practices.
- • Review case histories, exposure data, and community assessments with emphasis on occupational, environmental, and social risks.
- • Prepare public health assessment and surveillance reports with analyses, options, and recommendations.
- • Supervise or coordinate interdisciplinary public health teams and contractors.
- • Deliver briefings and presentations to community groups, officials, and professional audiences.
- • Evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of public health policies and interventions.
- • Identify and prioritize populations at risk for preventable diseases, injuries, and health inequities.
- • Design, implement, and use surveillance systems leveraging lab reports, vital records, EHRs, and screenings to detect health threats.
- • Lead public health education and outreach on communicable disease, injury prevention, nutrition, sanitation, environmental hazards, and immunizations.
- • Lead epidemiologic investigations, outbreak response, and public health emergency preparedness and response activities.
- • Develop and implement population-level interventions addressing behavioral, environmental, and social determinants of health.
- • Direct prevention and control programs in infectious disease, occupational and environmental health, and chronic disease.
- • Design, implement, or evaluate population health service delivery models to improve access, quality, and outcomes.
- • Coordinate multi-sector partnerships with healthcare, social services, education, public safety, and community organizations to improve community health.
- • Provide risk communication, guidance, and reports to the media, the public, healthcare providers, and local, state, and federal authorities.
