Description
Maintain safety and security on college or university property by enforcing state laws and institutional policies. Patrol academic, residential, and research areas; respond to emergencies; investigate incidents; manage traffic and events; educate the community; and coordinate with campus partners and local agencies in compliance with the Clery Act.
- • Patrol campus grounds, residence halls, and facilities by foot, bike, or vehicle to deter and detect violations.
- • Identify, detain, and arrest suspects of criminal acts occurring on campus.
- • Respond to emergencies, alarms, and calls for service, providing life safety and property protection.
- • Provide first aid and basic lifesaving care until EMS arrives.
- • Investigate reported crimes, policy violations, and suspicious activities.
- • Collect, preserve, and log evidence; photograph and diagram scenes.
- • Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects to obtain statements.
- • Evaluate calls to determine response priorities and resources needed.
- • Enforce campus traffic and parking regulations; issue citations and manage vehicle tows.
- • Investigate and report campus traffic accidents and other incidents.
- • Direct traffic and crowds during events, drills, and emergencies.

- • Testify in criminal court and participate in campus conduct hearings.
- • Verify appropriate criminal charges or policy referrals and complete related paperwork.
- • Serve warrants or court documents on campus as authorized.
- • Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire, and EMS during joint operations.
- • Provide security and threat assessments for campus events and VIP visits.
- • Conduct welfare checks on students, staff, and visitors as requested.
- • De-escalate conflicts and manage behavioral health crises; arrange protective custody or evaluations when warranted.
- • Provide safety escorts and personal safety education to community members.
- • Conduct crime prevention and emergency preparedness programs for students and staff.
- • Confiscate contraband and prohibited items in accordance with law and policy.
- • Process detainees, maintain custody records, and coordinate transfers to detention facilities.
- • Relay complaints and service requests to dispatch and other departments.
- • Assist with fire safety responses, evacuations, and building re-entry.
- • Support Title IX processes by taking reports and preserving evidence, referring to investigators.
- • Supervise or mentor campus security officers, student patrols, or interns as assigned.
- • Provide directions and general assistance to visitors and the campus community.
