Description
Fit and manage contact lenses based on written prescriptions and ocular measurements. Measure corneal parameters, select and order lens designs, verify specifications, instruct clients on insertion, removal, and care, and provide follow-up. Assess fit and vision, troubleshoot issues, coordinate with eye care providers, and maintain records, inventory, and insurance processing.
  • • Measure corneal curvature, HVID, pupil size, and tear film to assess suitability.
  • • Select lens type, material, base curve, diameter, and design per prescription and lifestyle.
  • • Perform trial fittings and assess lens centration, movement, and coverage with slit lamp.
  • • Conduct over-refraction and acuity checks to finalize contact lens power.
  • • Educate clients on insertion, removal, cleaning, disinfection, and storage.
  • • Set wear schedules and replacement plans; counsel on hygiene and warning signs.
  • • Verify received lenses meet ordered power, base curve, diameter, and quality standards.
  • • Prepare orders and documentation for soft, toric, multifocal, RGP, and scleral lenses.
  • • Maintain records of prescriptions, fittings, orders, and payments.
  • • Schedule and complete follow-ups; adjust parameters for comfort, vision, and ocular health.
  • • Recommend care systems, rewetting drops, and compatible solutions.
  • • Manage inventory of trial lenses, solutions, and accessories; track sales and insurance submissions.
  • • Coordinate with optometrists/ophthalmologists to confirm prescriptions and address clinical issues.
  • • Troubleshoot discomfort, dryness, or vision problems and implement corrections.
  • • Handle lens exchanges, warranties, and reorders.
  • • Teach first-time wearers and reinforce safe handling protocols.
  • • Arrange and maintain displays of contact lenses and lens care products.
  • • Train and mentor junior staff or student opticians in contact lens procedures.
  • • Ensure compliance with infection control and state regulatory requirements.
