Description
An Operations Research Analyst (Ops Research Analyst) formulates and applies mathematical models and optimization methods to produce insights that guide management decisions, policies, and operations. Collects and analyzes data; builds and validates decision-support tools, software, and services. Designs optimal time, cost, and logistics networks for planning, evaluation, and implementation.
- • Formulate mathematical or simulation models with defined variables, constraints, objectives, and parameters.
- • Partner with cross-functional teams to implement chosen solutions.
- • Elicit and analyze management inputs to define operational problems.
- • Validate, test, and refine models to ensure adequacy and robustness.
- • Collaborate with senior leaders to clarify objectives and solve diverse problems.
- • Define data requirements; collect, clean, and validate data using statistical tests.
- • Evaluate alternative courses of action to identify the best outcomes.
- • Prepare reports that frame problems, methods, results, and recommendations.
- • Decompose systems, quantify components, and analyze their relationships.
- • Specify computational, optimization, and analytical methods for models.
- • Observe current operations and gather data from multiple sources.
- • Design, conduct, and evaluate experiments when existing data are insufficient.
- • Develop and apply time and cost networks for planning, control, and review.
- • Design business methods and procedures, including logistics and production schedules.
- • Present modeling and analysis results to management and stakeholders.
- • Train staff in the use of models and decision-support tools.
- • Review and synthesize relevant research literature.
