Description
Resolve disputes between employees and management, negotiate and administer collective bargaining agreements, and coordinate grievance and arbitration procedures.
- • Advise management on contract administration and employee discipline or grievance procedures.
- • Meet with union, company, government, and other stakeholders to discuss negotiations and grievances.
- • Draft proposals and counterproposals for collective bargaining and other labor negotiations.
- • Develop rules or guidelines governing collective bargaining with company, government, or employee representatives.
- • Identify alternatives to proposals from unions, employees, employers, or agencies.
- • Interpret contract language for employers and employees in bargaining and labor relations.

- • Review employer practices and employee data for contract compliance on wages, hours, and working conditions.
- • Schedule and coordinate grievance hearings and other meetings.
- • Draft labor relations correspondence, including contract amendments, dispute or conciliation letters, and requests for clarification.
- • Assess risks associated with bargaining strategies.
- • Assess the operational impact of union proposals.
- • Collaborate on employee health and safety policy development.
- • Develop methods to monitor employee satisfaction and complaint or grievance procedures.
- • Prepare evidence for disciplinary hearings and prepare witnesses to testify.
- • Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings related to labor relations or contracts.
- • Research case law and outcomes of previous hearings.
- • Select mediators or arbitrators for labor disputes or contract negotiations.
- • Train managers and supervisors on labor relations, working conditions, safety, and equal opportunity practices.
