Description
Resolve disputes between employees and management, negotiate and administer collective bargaining agreements, and coordinate grievance and arbitration procedures.
  • • Advise management on contract administration and employee discipline or grievance procedures.
  • • Meet with union, company, government, and other stakeholders to discuss negotiations and grievances.
  • • Draft proposals and counterproposals for collective bargaining and other labor negotiations.
  • • Develop rules or guidelines governing collective bargaining with company, government, or employee representatives.
  • • Identify alternatives to proposals from unions, employees, employers, or agencies.
  • • Interpret contract language for employers and employees in bargaining and labor relations.
  • • Investigate and evaluate union complaints to determine merit.
  • • Mediate discussions between employer and employee representatives to resolve differences.
  • • Monitor workforce and employer compliance with labor agreements.
  • • Negotiate collective bargaining agreements.
  • • Prepare and submit required government reports related to labor relations (e.g., EEO, new hire, minority compensation).
  • • Prepare reports or presentations to communicate employee relations or satisfaction data to management.
  • • Present the company’s or labor’s position during arbitration and other negotiations.
  • • Propose resolutions for collective bargaining and other labor or contract negotiations.
  • • Recommend bargaining strategies, goals, and objectives.
  • • Review and advise on disciplinary actions, such as written reprimands, suspensions, or terminations.
  • • Review employer practices and employee data for contract compliance on wages, hours, and working conditions.
  • • Schedule and coordinate grievance hearings and other meetings.
  • • Draft labor relations correspondence, including contract amendments, dispute or conciliation letters, and requests for clarification.
  • • Assess risks associated with bargaining strategies.
  • • Assess the operational impact of union proposals.
  • • Collaborate on employee health and safety policy development.
  • • Develop methods to monitor employee satisfaction and complaint or grievance procedures.
  • • Prepare evidence for disciplinary hearings and prepare witnesses to testify.
  • • Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings related to labor relations or contracts.
  • • Research case law and outcomes of previous hearings.
  • • Select mediators or arbitrators for labor disputes or contract negotiations.
  • • Train managers and supervisors on labor relations, working conditions, safety, and equal opportunity practices.
