Description
Promote and ensure workplace and product safety by applying engineering principles, hazard analysis, and knowledge of industrial processes and regulations. Lead design review, risk reduction, and compliance efforts that protect people, equipment, and the environment.
  • • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and preventive measures.
  • • Perform risk assessments and hazard analyses for processes, equipment, and products.
  • • Evaluate product and equipment designs for compliance with safety standards and machine guarding requirements.
  • • Develop and implement safety procedures and permits, including lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work.
  • • Conduct and coordinate worker training on safety regulations, hazard recognition, and use of PPE and safety equipment.
  • • Maintain current knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ISO, and other applicable safety codes and industry practices.
  • • Recommend engineering and administrative controls and PPE to eliminate or reduce hazards.
  • • Report and present findings from investigations, inspections, and environmental health monitoring.
  • • Assess risks from foreseeable product misuse and update warnings and labels as needed.
  • • Verify and evaluate the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
  • • Interpret safety regulations and requirements for operations, design, and maintenance teams.
  • • Review and approve plans for new or modified facilities, machinery, and processes to ensure safety compliance.
  • • Draft or review product instructions, warnings, and precautionary labels.
  • • Interview employees and witnesses to gather information about workplace conditions and incidents.
  • • Provide expert input or testimony on safety engineering matters when required.
  • • Audit safety programs and management systems to determine their adequacy and effectiveness.
  • • Measure and evaluate air quality, noise, temperature, and radiation to verify regulatory compliance.
  • • Advise leaders on managing health and safety risks and implementing needed changes.
  • • Contribute to development and adoption of company and industry safety standards.
  • • Coordinate with fire departments, emergency responders, and mutual aid partners to strengthen emergency preparedness.
  • • Analyze safety metrics and trends to target improvements and prevent recurrence.
  • • Write and revise safety policies, procedures, and codes of practice.
  • • Consult with occupational health or medical professionals on exposure risks and controls.
  • • Design, specify, or select safety devices and interlocks, and oversee installation and commissioning.
  • • Verify structural and floor load capacities for equipment installations.
  • • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
