Description
Monitor and document geological and drilling data at wellsites. Analyze drilling mud and cuttings, detect and quantify gases, and maintain real-time logs of lithology, hydrocarbons, and drilling parameters to support geologists and drilling teams.
  • • Collect and prepare drill cuttings at specified depth intervals.
  • • Describe lithology, grain size, color, and texture under a microscope.
  • • Perform fluorescence and solvent cut tests for hydrocarbon shows.
  • • Operate and calibrate total gas detectors and gas chromatographs.
  • • Quantify and speciate hydrocarbon gases (C1-C5) from the mud stream.
  • • Set, verify, and update lag time and depth tracking.
  • • Monitor and record ROP, WOB, RPM, torque, SPP, and pump strokes.
  • • Track mud weight, viscosity, pit volumes, flow rates, and temperature.
  • • Detect and report background, connection, and trip gas, and kick indicators.
  • • Maintain real-time mud logs and formation evaluation logs.
  • • Correlate cuttings and gas data with MWD, LWD, and wireline logs.
  • • Summarize formation tops, shows, and drilling breaks for the geology team.
  • • Compile daily and end-of-well reports for clients and operations.
  • • Label, archive, and ship cuttings and samples per client standards.
  • • Capture and annotate photographs of cuttings and shows.
  • • Install, operate, and troubleshoot gas traps, surface sensors, and data systems.
  • • Perform routine maintenance and field repairs on logging equipment.
  • • Validate data quality and apply QA/QC procedures.
  • • Upload and transmit data and logs via WITS or WITSML.
  • • Plot lithology, gas, and drilling trends versus depth and time.
  • • Alert drilling and geology teams to hazards or anomalous trends.
  • • Participate in pre-job planning, rig up and rig down, and HSE meetings.
  • • Follow well control and H2S monitoring protocols; test alarms and detectors.
  • • Read and interpret drilling programs and offset well information.
  • • Maintain organized notes, records, and sample inventories.
  • • Provide thorough shift handovers and maintain 24/7 coverage.
